Our experts here at Sidex just finished up a shower replacement in Germantown, WI for our new customer the Fischer family. This customer wanted more of a modern look with more space and a clean finish. Our team Replacing a fiberglass surround shower into an acrylic shower is something that is becoming more common as it gives you more room with it being flush to the wall and ground. Here is a description of how the job is done.
Shower Replacement process:
1. Shutting off the water: You want the water to the house to be off before starting to do the demolition as you never know what can be behind fiberglass surrounds with them having alot of space behind them.
2. Demolition: Remove the plumbing fixtures. Cut the surround out starting 2 inches away from the actual material because fiberglass surrounds have a lip behind them underneath the drywall
3. Modifications: Move the new valve to a standard height if it isn’t already, Move the drain to accommodate the new base as no base is made the same.
4. Installing new shower base: Dry fit the new base to make sure it fits properly and check to make sure the floor is leveled before installing. Glue and secure the base to the ground and studs.
5. Install the acrylic walls: Cut the walls to size, Apply adhesive and install the walls making sure they are closer to the base and ceiling
6. Finishing: Clean the wall system, install any accessories, install the new plumbing fixtures, and seal all the corners to make sure they are watertight,
